Florida air conditioners work harder than almost anywhere in the country. Here is how to hear them asking for help.

The ice on the line

If you see frost on the copper line, switch the system off and call. Running it makes things worse.

The smell

A musty smell when the system starts usually means a dirty coil or a clogged drain. A burning smell means stop, now.

The slow cool

If the house takes hours to drop even two degrees, the problem is probably airflow or refrigerant, not the thermostat.

A tune-up before summer costs a lot less than a Saturday-night repair in August.
